At Aspir8, we believe in safety and that dermal filler regulations are key. That’s why we are thrilled that a new bill will soon be passed in the UK to ensure stricter regulations when it comes to dermal fillers and other aesthetic treatments. It comes after last years’ introduction of a new legislation which made it illegal for under-18s to access cosmetic fillers and anti-wrinkle injections. The Government has given the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care the power to introduce a national licensing regime. The scope of the scheme is yet to be determined. Nevertheless, having new regulations in place is something we greatly welcome.
Regulation Plans and Expectations
We aren’t quite sure what the new ruling will entail. However, there are a few things we expect to see:
- Mandatory education and training standards for all practitioners.
- Regulation to ensure that only practitioners who meet the required safety standards can practice legally.
- Clear information on the risks, benefits, practitioner and costs of treatments.
- A clear definition of what a ‘medical procedure’ is.
- Tighter controls on advertising and social media marketing.
- An agreed process for reporting and analysis of complications and adverse incidents.
Why is Safety in Aesthetics Important?
At the moment, the aesthetics industry in the UK is gravely underregulated. This means that almost anybody can administer injectable treatments. This is extremely dangerous for patients and can cause serious side effects such as vascular occlusion, skin necrosis and blindness. Injectable procedures such as dermal fillers require great anatomical knowledge, precision and care. They should therefore only ever be carried out by an experienced medical professional. At Aspir8, we believe in the importance of responsible injectors delivering safe, ethical treatments.
How does Aspir8 Work?
Aspir8 produce innovative and effective safety devices to make injecting dermal filler easier and safer than ever. Our debut product, the Aspir8 thumb ring simply clips onto your syringe and becomes a seamless extension of your injecting apparatus. This device helps both injector and patient in a number of ways including:
- Improving stability when injecting.
- Boosting injector confidence.
- Reducing the risk of complications such as vascular occlusion.
- Increasing patient satisfaction and experience.
